Revision Modules for Student Physician Associates

Gastroenterology

Mr Timothy Mark Eden
Barts & The London School of Medicine and Dentistry

This educational module is aimed at physician associate students to complement core training in the context of gastrointestinal disorders. This provides a case orientated approach to patients presenting in the either the primary or secondary care setting enabling the user to consider the clinical context and appreciate appropriate differential diagnoses.

The module navigates through ten clinical scenarios each providing five potential differentials with only one correct answer. As you navigate through the scenario relevant material and links are provided to help explore the given options. Applicable medical terminology will be explored and core anatomy and pathophysiology will be highlighted but equally signposting where further reading would be beneficial. At the end of each case the correct answer is explained in full with a clinical rationale to help appreciate the reasoning behind this.

Therefore the key focus of this module is to help improve your knowledge and confidence when reviewing these conditions identifying commonly associated signs and symptoms. This helps the individual to revise given gastrointestinal conditions and provide a structure to recognise clinical associations within the vignettes appreciating the saying within medicine that ‘common things are common’. This resource is targeted to revise important pathologies within your gastroenterology teaching and is not exhaustive but aims to cover high yielding topics encountered in clinical practice.
